go to realtor.com and search for properties in jacksonville, that will give you a pretty good idea of home prices.
The climate is like all Florida, a fairly tropical climate on the coast. Plenty of rain, chance of hurricane, but you can wear shorts 11 months out of the year. I used to live in Florida and I loved the climate. Jacksonville also has an awesome downtown. In my opinion It is a pretty good place to live.My wife and i are looking to move home and are looking for advice. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I lived in Jacksonville, and I can tell you anything you need to know about it. The city is huge... spread out like a mofo. It really depends what specific part of town you want to live in to get an idea about how much it is going to cost. There are some overpriced areas, and some very underpriced and up and coming areas. Perhaps you can drop me an email and we can chat. Use my yahoo one, the username on the left at yahoo.com
Just go to www.realtor.com You can search the areas and get an idea.
Jacksonville can tend to be a tad pricey. There is a town East of Raleigh, North Carolina, named Wilson, NC, which has all the necessary infrastructure (roads, stores, etc.) but lacks housing and people. We just developed a 43 lot subdivision there; lots sell for as little as $19,000 and a complete, newly built house would probably cost in the $125,000 range (that price INCLUDES the land.) It's close enough to Raleigh to have great access to lots of great jobs, but just far enough away to not be expensive.
CONTACT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, ASK FOR TRANSIT ROUTES MAP OF THE CITY AND SURROUNDING AREAS ORDER A COUPLE OF NEWS PAPERS ,SUNDAYS FOR SURE,THIS WAY YOU MAY GO THROUGH A REALTOR, OR A PRIVATE OWNER WHILE YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE MAP WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED,I'M SURE THEY HAVE STARTER HOMES, GIVE IT TLC SELL IT ,MOVE IN TO ANOTHER, ASK ABOUT THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF TOWN, THE WEATHER IS MODERATE IN THE WINTER,BECAUSE SOME TIMES IN THE WINTER EVEN FURTHER SOUTH CAN GET A COLD SNAP TO ONCE IN A WHILE

if you are buying in Florida, don't forget to account for the monthly cost of hurricane insurance.
